French Foreign Minister, in collaboration with UK and Germany, announced it has received UNSC permission to conduct a hearing session for the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights Navi Pillay. France said it hopes the hearing session would develop new prospects for the issues of humanitarian aid and the deployment of field observers. International efforts have been picking up pace as a result of the new Syrian fact-finding mission report, which stated that the regime’s crimes against humanity included the targeting of women and children without any reservation.

The president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Yussef Qaradawi, said that Syrians have the right to ask for international protection if the Arab League failed to provide it. Qaradawi added that Syrians could call for protection through the UN.

Assad’s forces killed at least 44 today, mostly in Homs and Damascus suburbs, after security forces and militiamen opened fired at dozens of demonstrators on what was called the “dignity strike” Friday. Furthermore, more than a hundred people were injured in the Damascus suburb of Douma.

In Homs, demonstrations broke out from all the revolting neighbourhoods and security forces responded by shooting them. Security forces then raided the neighbourhoods of Bayada, Khaldiya, Jab Jandali, Bab Sebaa, Bab Draib, and Karm Zaytoun; and the cities of Qasir and Houleh. The regime deployed dozens of tanks and armoured units that randomly fired heavy machinegun rounds killing and injuring many civilians. Bayada has been a target of an intense military crackdown and siege. Many houses and stores were partially destroyed from the shelling.
