وصل اليوم رسميّاً إلى حمص مراقبو بعثة جامعة الدول العربية واجتمعوا مع محافظ المدينة غسان عبد العال للاستعلام عن أوضاع المدينة. وخرج أكثر من سبعين ألف متظاهر إلى وسط المدينة في حمص. هذا وقد وصلت في الأمس الدفعة الأولى من المراقبين العرب إلى سورية الذين يبلغ عددهم خمسين مراقباً سيتم تقسيمهم إلى خمس فرق تضم كل واحدة منها عشرة مراقبين. وستتوجه كلّ منها إلى خمسة مواقع مختلفة، هي حمص ودمشق ودرعا وحماة وإدلب وأريافها. وبدأ النظام بسحب قوّاته من هذه المدن وإخفائها في قواعد قريبة. وأمّا في بعض المناطق كجبل الزاوية، فقد قام النظام بنزع اللوحات الإرشادية من الطرق التي توصِل إلى جبل الزاوية قبل دخول اللجنة العربية وتم نصب مساكن وخيم عسكرية في مدخل البلدة لجعلها تبدو على أنّها منطقة عسكرية محظورة. ويُذكر أنّ النظام أخذ وفد المراقبين إلى حي الزهراء العلوي في حمص وأخبرهم أنّه حي بابا عمرو

وقد تسربت معلومات تشير بأنّ الأجهزة الأمنية أحضرت سيارات مفخخة بمتفجرات شديدة القوة إلى ساحات حمص بالقرب من ساحة الساعة القديمة والجديدة. وحسب التسريب فإن التفجير سوف يتم أثناء وجود المراقبيين

وأعلنت الحكومة العراقية عن رفضها السماح لمرور الشاحنات الأردنية عبر الأراضي العراقية باتجاه تركيا تجنباً للمرور عبر سورية وفق إطار قرار العقوبات العربية. وبررت ذلك بهدف عدم إلحاق الضرر بالشعب السوري

وقتلت قوّات الأمن اليوم ما لا يقل عن 42 شخصاً، معظمهم سقطوا في حمص، والآخرين في حماة ودرعا ودمشق التي أُطلق النار في جامعتها على أربعة طلاب. وقد خرجت اليوم مظاهرات في الجيزة والطيبة ونصيب والمسيفرة والغرية في درعا رَفَعت لافتات على مداخلها تقول أن جامعة الدول العربية تُشارك مع الأسد في قتل الشعب السوري

وقتلت قوّات الأسد ثلاثة لبنانيين في منطقة وادي خالد -شمالي لبنان- بعدما قامت دوريّة أمن سورية بمطاردة سيارة داخل الأراضي اللبنانية في مدينة عكار. وقامت قوّات الأمن السورية بإطلاق النار على السيارة ومن ثمّ إنزال الجثثث وتفتيشها قبل أن يعودوا أدراجهم. وقد تكرّرت هذه الحادثة وعدّة انتهاكات أخرى في الماضي للأراضي اللبنانية

Observers Arrive in Homs and Iraq Denies Entry to Turkey-Bound Trucks

Residents of Homs demand international protection for "whoever is left in the city"

Summary of Events

The Arab League’s observers formally arrived today in Homs, and began their visit by meeting with the mayor of the city, Ghassan Abdul Aal. More than seventy thousand residents broke out to the streets and gathered at the main square in Homs -new and old Clock squares- to demonstrate in front of the mission. Fifty members -or one third- of the observers’ mission to Syria arrived yesterday, and were divided into five teams composed of ten members each. Each team will visit the different Syrian cities such as Homs, Damascus, Daraa, Hama, and Idlib. The regime began pulling out its forces from the cities and hiding them nearby. Meanwhile in some areas such as Jabal al-Zawiya, regime forces removed road signs leading to the villages and towns and set up army camps instead to deem those areas as sensitive military installations and thus deny entry to the observers. The regime has also taken the observers mission to the Alawite Zahra neighbourhood in Homs and told them it was Baba Amr.

According to inside sources, the regime sent two cars rigged with explosives to the new and old Clock squares in Homs. These explosions are supposed to take place when the observers visit the squares accompanied by security forces.

The Iraqi government denied entry for Jordanian trucks bound to Turkey because it believed that the trucks were taking a diversion off their usual route through Syria as a result of the Arab sanctions imposed on the Assad regim. Iraq said these sanctions hurt the Syrian population and will not take part in its implementation.

Security forces killed at least 42 today, most fell in Homs, while others fell in Hama, Daraa, and Damascus, which had four students shot on its university campus. Demonstrations also broke out in Daraa in Jiza, Nasib, Mesaifra, and Ghraya, with banners and signs saying that the Arab League is assisting the Assad regime in killing the Syrian people.

Assad’s forces killed three Lebanese today on Lebanese territories in the city of Akkar in the area of Wadi Khaled. The Lebanese were killed after Syrian security forces chased their car and open fire at them. After their car stopped, the security personnel dragged the bodies out and searched them then left. This incident and other violations of the sovereignty of Lebanon have often taken place without a major outcry by the Lebanese state
