Summary of Events

The director of the military observers’ mission dispatched to Syria by the Arab League, Sudanese General Muhammad Ahmad al-Dabi, is wanted by the International Criminal Court for suspicions of committing crimes against humanity in Darfur. Furthermore, considering how close the Assad and Bashir regimes are to each other, Syrians have no hope for a fair performance by the mission.

The regime has issued a new decree, sentencing weapon smugglers and dealers to 15 years of imprisonment, while sentencing smugglers dealing with “terrorist cells” with execution. The regime is using this law to imprison and execute demonstrators after their confessions are forced out with threats and torture. The regime is also distributing policemen ID cards to its militiamen and soldiers at checkpoints in the besieged areas, to trick the observers mission.

Assad’s forces killed at least 38 civilians today, mostly in Idlib. Since the signing of the Arab League protocol three days ago, 200 people were killed all over Syria including 160 in Idlib alone. The regime is shelling and opening fire at anything that moves, and is committing several massacres in remote villages, the largest massacres occurred in Kafr Aweid and Bakansafra.

In Homs province, the city of Qasir is still under a heavy military campaign for the sixth day, as the city endures heavy shelling, while houses are undergoing arbitrary sweeps and arrests. Houses, cars, motorbikes, and shops were also burnt and looted. Humanitarian conditions continue to deteriorate as food, medicine, and basic material are prohibited from entry into the impacted areas. In Aqrab, Houleh, more than 50 houses near the eastern security base were evacuated due to the random shelling of the houses. The same goes for all houses around the checkpoints in besieged areas.

In Aleppo, Assad’s forces turned the Commercial Institute in Saif al-Dawleh district to a prison, as dozens of detainees are brought in daily. The names of those incarcerated do not get registered, so no party could question what happened to the detainees in the future. Regime forces also attacked the Faculties of Arts, Electrical Engineering, and Sciences at the University of Aleppo. Security forces broke the glass and randomly attacked students, before heading over the dorms and attacking those living in Units 11 and 17. At the same time, the Kurdish PYD officially participated in the demonstrations against the regime in Kobani (Ain al-Arab) while raising the Syrian Independence flag.

As for the military drills the regime has been conducting, inside sources obtained reports concluding that most Sunni pilots were expelled from the military air force after the Presidential Palace was almost bombed in a coup attempt.
